About the Firm
We are the law firm for consequential decisions. The work we do is found at the intersection of business, property, government, and public policy. It involves the deals, disputes, projects, and public actions that determine a company’s direction or how a community will be defined and public power put to use. Such matters have a way of not remaining in one lane; they call for a lawyer with an eye for the entire board.
Our approach is predicated on a straightforward belief: that good counsel can impose order on confusion and provide the steady hand required when the stakes are high.
The Name
Shiloh was an old town. When the Israelite tribes finished their long wandering, they put down roots there and made it their own, bringing the Ark to rest and uniting as a single people. It was their anchor for generations; they came to Shiloh to settle their differences, parcel out land, or be guided in the right direction. It was where you went to put matters in order.
Then there is the matter of the word itself. In Hebrew Shiloh conveys a sense of calm and rest, the kind of quiet and clarity of mind that comes in the wake of a hard struggle.
We see both of those things in what we do. Our clients come to us at difficult times with questions on their minds. A lawyer should be there to make sense of the confusion, collect the facts, and show them the path ahead. Shiloh Counsel is built on that notion.
How the Firm Works
Legal problems are rarely neatly contained. A question of property can arise from an ordinary business matter; a development project may hinge on the vagaries of public records, zoning, incentives or a utility’s reach. Then there is the government decision that in one go has to be justified by statute and contract, by procedure and public trust.
Some firms have a way of dealing with such issues by shuffling them from one department to the next down the hall. The client is left with a stack of disparate opinions and little in the way of direction. Shiloh Counsel does not operate that way. We take in the whole of the problem, make the connections and put forward advice for the client to act on.
Preparation is our first order of business. We get to know the record and put some thought into it; judgment is something we build rather than improvise. Our counsel is plain. After speaking with us one should have a firm grasp of the situation and the options at hand, instead of being handed a memo that only serves to create more questions.
We are after the right result and the work we put out reflects that. Contracts are drafted to be unambiguous and endure. Filings are constructed to stand up to any scrutiny. The firm is steady in all of this. There is no better time for calm counsel to prove its worth than when the stakes and the pressure are high, and that is the standard we set for ourselves.
Who the Firm Serves
The firm's clients run from businesses, to cities and counties, utilities and developers, civic institutions, and individuals with something real at stake. Some need a contract drafted or a brand protected. Others face a regulator, a zoning board, or a government that has crossed a constitutional line.
Based in Indiana, Shiloh Counsel serves clients throughout the state, and in matters of intellectual property and constitutional law, well beyond it.
Looking Ahead
Shiloh Counsel is built to last, and built to grow. As we grow, we will add lawyers and professionals who share our way of working: careful preparation, plain counsel, and steady judgment. Whatever our size, the firm's purpose will hold: to be the place clients bring hard questions and leave with clear direction.
